Egypt ready to use regional, international ties to support Lebanon de-escalation: FM

BEIRUT – 26 November 2025: Egypt said it is prepared to leverage its regional and international relationships to support efforts aimed at calming tensions and preserving Lebanon’s stability.

Meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Wednesday in Beirut, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty praised Aoun’s wise national positions in safeguarding Lebanon’s higher interests, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo’s ongoing support for Lebanese state institutions.

The foreign minister said Egypt’s engagement with Lebanon is rooted in firm principles of backing the country’s unity, sovereignty, security and stability.

Abdelatty also voiced concern over the growing pace of Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory and urged collective efforts to prevent any further escalation.

He called for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which requires Israel’s withdrawal and an end to violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty.

Aoun, for his part, expressed gratitude for Egypt’s consistent and unwavering support for Lebanon in all circumstances and also praised the Egyptian role in backing regional stability.

The talks also covered bilateral relations between the two countries as well as the war in Gaza in light of Egypt’s preparations to host an international early recovery and construction conference.

Aoun said he looks forward to continued close coordination between the two countries and to strengthening bilateral cooperation in ways that serve the interests of both peoples and reinforce security and stability in the region.
