CAIRO – 20 November 2025: The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly adopted an annual resolution presented by Egypt affirming the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, Egypt’s foreign ministry said on Thursday.

The measure, introduced by Egypt on behalf of the Islamic group at the UN, won the support of 164 member states.

Cairo said the broad backing of the resolution reflects sustained international commitment to the Palestinians’ fundamental rights, including the inalienable right to establish an independent state in line with the UN Charter and international law.

Egypt reiterated its steadfast commitment to supporting the legitimate Palestinian rights and to cooperating with brotherly states and international partners to achieve a comprehensive settlement that fulfills the Palestinians’ aspirations for freedom and independence.

The resolution, often presented by Egypt, represents a key political text reaffirming the Palestinians’ inalienable right to self-determination and statehood, and calls on all UN member states to uphold these rights under international law.

Moreover, Egypt stressed that it will continue working with its regional and international partners to ensure the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan to advance security and stability and open a genuine political horizon for the Palestinian people.

The country further underscored the importance of fully implementing recently-adopted UN Security Council Resolution 2803 to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza.

The ministry emphasized the UNSC resolution’s significance to support reconstruction efforts and establish a credible political pathway toward a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause.
