CAIRO – 15 November 2025: Cairo has highlighted a recent joint statement that it has issued recently alongside eight other countries to back a draft UN Security Council resolution on the Palestinian cause and the war in Gaza.
The statement, which includes the United States as a signatory, cites “a pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood.”
In a phone call with Massad Boulos, US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, on Saturday, Abdelatty said the joint statement underscores the collective support for the resolution.
On Friday, the United States, Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Türkiye issued a statement calling for the “swift adoption” of this resolution.
Washington is pressing for the UN Security Council’s approval of a US resolution aimed at backing President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.
The 20-point plan, which last month secured a ceasefire and prisoner swap between Hamas and Israel, calls for a temporary international force in Gaza and a “Board of Peace” led by Trump with a mandate running until the end of 2027 to oversee a Palestinian technocratic government.
Trump’s plan also mentions that the conditions “may finally be in place for a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood” while Gaza re-development advances and the Palestinian Authority’s reform program is “faithfully” carried out.
Joint Statement Ahead of UNSC Voting
In their joint statement, the nine countries expressed their “joint support for the Security Council Resolution currently under consideration, drafted by the United States after consultation and in cooperation with Council members and partners in the region.”
The UN Security Council is scheduled to vote on the US resolution on Monday, the AFP reported, citing diplomats.
“The historic Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict announced on September 29 is endorsed by the resolution and was celebrated and endorsed in Sharm Al Sheikh (peace summit on Gaza),” the statement read.
“We are issuing this statement as the Member States that gathered during High-Level Week to begin this process, which offers a pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood.”
“We emphasize that this is a sincere effort, and the Plan provides a viable path towards peace and stability, not only between the Israelis and the Palestinians, but for the entire region.”
“We are looking forward to this resolution’s swift adoption.”
Palestinian Statehood, Gaza Reconstruction
During his conversation with the US senior advisor, the Egyptian foreign minister called for moving forward with the plan launched during the Sharm El Sheikh summit.
He asserted that the plan offers a practical path toward Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, reinforcing peace and stability across the region.
Abdelatty also reviewed preparations for the international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, that Cairo is set to host.
He emphasized the need to mobilize regional and global support to ensure effective implementation of humanitarian and reconstruction efforts aimed at easing the suffering of Palestinians in the enclave.
