Egypt steps up high-level contacts to help revive Iran-US negotiations on nuclear deal

CAIRO – 18 October 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty has intensified diplomatic contacts aimed at reviving negotiations between Iran and the United States on the Iranian nuclear file and supporting regional stability.

In a series of high-level calls, Abdelatty spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, and US President’s Middle East Envoy Steve Whitkoff, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

The discussions came as part of Egypt’s efforts to promote security, de-escalation, and confidence-building in the region, and to build on the momentum created by the Cairo Agreement signed between Iran and the IAEA on September 9.

The talks addressed the importance of continuing efforts to reduce tensions, foster trust among parties, and create the conditions necessary to resume negotiations between Iran and the United States.

The ultimate goal, Abdelatty emphasized, is to reach a comprehensive agreement that takes into account the interests of all sides and contributes to regional peace and stability.

The parties agreed to maintain coordination and follow up on ongoing efforts and proposals aimed at achieving the hoped-for breakthrough, the statement read.
