CAIRO – 14 September 2025: Confirmed famine in Gaza has claimed two more lives, raising the death toll from malnutrition and starvation to 422, including 145 children, according to the enclave’s health ministry.
A report published in August by the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) officially confirmed famine in Gaza City, home to nearly half of the enclave’s 2.2 million people, and surrounding areas for the first time.
The analysis found that over 500,000 people are currently trapped in famine conditions, and projected that by the end of September, famine could spread across the entire enclave.
It further warned that by June 2026, more than 100,000 children under the age of five will be at risk of death due to acute malnutrition.
Israel Reducing Gaza City to Rubble
Meanwhile, Israel continues to kill dozens of civilians daily and has intensified its offensive on Gaza City, reportedly aiming to expel residents and impose full security control over the enclave.
Tel Aviv has warned Gaza City residents to evacuate immediately, claiming the city remains Hamas’s last stronghold.
Over the past days, Israeli forces have reduced several high-rise towers to rubble and forced residents to flee toward the so-called humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi in the south. The Israeli army claims that 250,000 people have already left the city.
Israeli forces have repeatedly launched airstrikes on areas they had previously designated as “safe,” including Al-Mawasi Camp as well as locations in Khan Younis and Rafah in southern Gaza, killing scores of civilians.
The operation has continued despite global condemnation, including from Western nations.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the offensive aims to return captives, fully demilitarize Gaza, and establish a new civil administration unaffiliated with either Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.
While ceasefire efforts were underway, Israel launched last week an unprecedented attack on the Qatari capital, Doha, in an attempt to eliminate Hamas leaders meeting to discuss a US-proposed truce.
The strike marked an escalation of Israel’s regional aggression, which since the start of the war has included attacks in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and now Qatar — a key US ally and a central mediator in ceasefire negotiations.
Since the outbreak of the war in October 2023, Israeli forces have killed 64,718 people in Gaza and injured 163,859 others, according to Gaza’s health ministry, in one of the most brutal wars in modern history.
