Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani speaks during a press conference after Israeli strikes on Hamas leadership in Doha - Qatar's MFA
CAIRO – 10 September 2025: Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani condemned Israel’s attack on Hamas leadership in Doha as “state terrorism, carried out by “barbaric” Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Al Thani stated that such Israeli practices is part of systematic policies and ongoing attempts to undermine regional security and stability, calling out Netanyahu by name.
They send “a clear message to the entire region: ‘There is a rogue actor engaging in constant political thuggery in this region and violating the sovereignty of its states.’”
The prime minister called for “a unified regional response to confront these hostile actions, which reflect nothing but the barbarism of Netanyahu.”
He warned that the Israeli prime minister is “driving the region toward an irreparable state, where it becomes impossible to operate within the frameworks, norms, and international laws he has so blatantly disregarded.”
Al Thani mentioned Netanyahu’s previous remarks, in which he said that he wants to redraw the Middle East.
“Is this also a message that he intends to reshape the Arabian Gulf?,” Al Thani asked.
The prime minister condemned the attack, saying it “not only violates international law, but also breaches moral and humanitarian standards,” mentioning Doha’s role in mediating between Hamas and Israel to achieve ceasefire in Gaza.
“Qatar is a mediating state officially hosting negotiations, with formal mediation and the presence of delegations, including from Israel, which launched an attack on the negotiating delegation from the other side.”
“This can only be described as treachery, and treachery is to be expected from someone like Netanyahu,” Al Thani stressed.
He expressed his astonishment that such a deliberate act could come from someone who claims to be bringing stability to the region, when in fact “he does nothing but destabilize it with narcissistic delusions serving his own personal interests.”
'Sabotaging Gaza Talks'
The prime minister added that recent days had witnessed the final stages of Gaza negotiations, which had been proceeding intensively at the request of the United States to discuss the latest ceasefire proposal received from them.
He added that the talks were being conducted with the full knowledge of the Israeli side, which had been regularly sending its delegations to Doha.
He described the incident as a deliberate act of sabotage against all efforts to create opportunities for peace in the region.
“Does the world need a clearer message than this regarding who is the one closing the door to peace? Does the international community need any stronger message on who is the bully in the region?”
Regarding Gaza talks, Al Thani stressed that Qatar has spared no effort to ensure the success of ceasefire negotiations and will continue to exert all necessary efforts to end the attacks on the enclave.
He noted that currently, there are no ongoing negotiations for a deal amid the continued Israeli assault.
Israeli jets launched airstrikes on the political bureau of Hamas on Tuesday, targeting the negotiating delegation led by the group’s chief in Gaza Khalil Al-Hayya.
Hamas said the attack failed to target the delegation but claimed the lives of several officials from the group, including Al-Hayya’s son. A member of Qatar’s Internal Security Force was also killed and others were injured, according to the Qatari interior ministry.
US officials claim that American personnel were notified only after Israeli F-16 jets were already en route to the Gulf. President Donald Trump told Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani that the US did not know about the attack in advance.
The Qatari prime minister stated that a US official informed Qatari authorities of the attack only ten minutes after it had commenced.
The attack comes while Qatar and Egypt have intensified their efforts to broker a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel to end the war in Gaza that has lasted for nearly two years and killed over 64,000 Palestinians.
The US this week put forward a ceasefire proposal that includes the release of all 48 captives still held in Gaza, including around 20 living ones one day one of a truce, and the immediate start of talks on a comprehensive end to the war.
Israel said it accepts Trump’s proposal and Hamas said it was studying the offer.
“I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social site regarding the proposal, only two days before the strike.
“This is my last warning, there will not be another one!”
Netanyahu claimed full responsibility for the attack. Meanwhile, Israeli media reports that Trump was aware of the planned strike.
