CAIRO – 11 May 2025: A short while ago, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority announced recording 40 degrees Celsius in the shade in Cairo with the capital suffering from a brief heatwave that ends up on Monday with a big drop.

Temperatures even surpassed the 40-mark in Upper Egypt, with the southern areas –home to the charming Luxor and Aswan– currently boiling at 43 degrees.

However, temperatures are set to drop dramatically starting Monday, as Cairo will record 31-33 degrees for the highs until the end of the week.

The North Coast, which houses Alexandria and Matrouh, is witnessing much better weather today at around 31 degrees for the highs. And it's only getting better, dropping to a cool 25 until Wednesday before bouncing back to a pleasant 29 on Friday.

Temperatures will also significantly improve in northern Upper Egypt –home to Fayoum and Minya—ranging from 32-37 through the week.

Down in southern Upper Egypt, things will gradually cool down, reaching 37 by Thursday.

So, grab a hat, find some shade, and stay hydrated! The end of the heatwave is in sight.
