CAIRO – 13 April 2025: Egypt expressed hope that the recently initiated talks between the United States and Iran will result in an agreement that addresses the concerns of both countries and ensures security and stability for nations in the Arab Gulf region.
In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Oman’s hosting of the first direct negotiations between the US and Iran, commending the cooperative approach demonstrated by both negotiating sides.
Egypt praised the American and Iranian sides for resorting to dialogue and negotiations, aiming for a political settlement that decreases regional tensions.
Ending Gaza War
The statement expressed Egypt’s aspiration that these negotiations will usher in a new phase contributing to calm and reducing tensions, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
Egypt hopes the talks will facilitate a sustainable ceasefire and enable reconstruction in Gaza while ensuring that Palestinians remain on their land, the ministry said.
This new phase should also pave the way for a serious and credible political process aimed at establishing a Palestinian state and ending the ongoing conflict.

The ministry highlighted the vision articulated by US President Donald Trump, advocating for an end to international wars and conflicts.
Egypt urges leveraging this momentum to achieve a historic breakthrough that alleviates the suffering of the Palestinian people, which has persisted for over seven decades.
Championing Political Solutions
Cairo commended Oman for its vital and ongoing role in facilitating political and peaceful solutions to the significant challenges facing the region, while averting the threat of all-out war across the region.
Egypt reaffirmed its full support for Oman’s sincere efforts and all initiatives aimed at reaching political solutions through dialogue.
“This approach has long been championed by Egypt, grounded in the belief that military solutions are ineffective in resolving the crises afflicting the region and that the escalation policy only exacerbates the situation,” the ministry emphasized.
‘Constructive’ Talks
The US and Iran held their first round of talks in Oman on Saturday, addressing Tehran's nuclear program.
Both the US and Israel are concerned that Iran is seeking to acquire a nuclear weapon, as it has enriched uranium significantly beyond the 3.67% threshold established under the 2015 nuclear agreement, from which the US withdrew in 2018 during Trump’s first term.
Trump has threatened military action against Iran if nuclear talks fail, indicating that Israel could be “the leader” of such an attack.
"Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, and if the talks aren't successful, I believe it will be a very bad day for Iran," Trump stated in the Oval Office last week.
Both the US and Iran described yesterday’s meeting as "constructive" and confirmed that a second round of talks will take place next week.
The White House characterized the discussions as “very positive and constructive” in a statement following the meeting, noting that Witkoff, who led the US delegation, said he received instructions to resolve differences “through dialogue and diplomacy, if possible.”
“These issues are very complicated, and special envoy Witkoff's direct communication today was a step forward in achieving a mutually beneficial outcome,” the White House added.
