CAIRO – 28 February 2025: The Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa (the Fatwa House) will sight the crescent of the month of Ramadan in 1446 Hijri year, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar during which Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to the sunset.
The announcement of the new month will be declared after the prayer of Maghreb (the prayer that occurs just after sunset).
The sighting occurs after sunset on the 29th of the month of Shaban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. Upon sighting the crescent, the commencement of Ramadan is confirmed.
If the sighting falters and the crescent does not appear, the month of Shaban extends to its 30th day.
It's noteworthy that Ramadan typically begins approximately 10 to 14 days earlier each Gregorian calendar year compared to the previous year.
