FM Hayashi: Egypt’s development achievements helped in Japanese investment boost

CAIRO – 6 September 2023: Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi hailed Egypt’s development achievements, saying they have contributed to doubling Japanese investments in a short period.

In a meeting with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Egypt on Wednesday, Hayashi stressed Japan’s keenness to continue and boost its investments in Egypt, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said.

During their meeting, Sisi and Hayashi discussed issues of Egyptian-Japanese cooperation in the fields of education, energy, transportation and technology.

In this regard, Sisi stressed Egypt’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Japan in education in light of the interest in benefiting from the Japanese special experience in this field.

Sisi and Hayashi also discussed cooperation on the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), which is the “major icon of civilizational and cultural cooperation between the two friendly countries,” the spokesman added.

 

Hayashi conveyed to Sisi the greetings of Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, welcoming the positive developments witnessed by the Egyptian-Japanese relations at all levels within the two countries’ strategic partnership.

For his part, Sisi affirmed Egypt’s keenness to enhance relations with Japan and build on the outcomes of Kishida’s visit to Egypt last April in order to alleviate the bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership.

Int’l issues of concern

During their meeting, Sisi and Hayashi discussed international peace and security issues, especially the Russia-Ukraine crisis and its negative implications on the global economic situation and the energy and food crises.

They also discussed a number of regional issues of mutual concern. In this regard, Hayashi stressed Japan’s support to the Egyptian efforts to settle the ongoing crises in the region.

During the meeting, the Egyptian and Japanese viewpoints have focused on the priority for political solutions and peaceful dialogue regarding the crises.

The two sides also affirmed the need to preserve the unity and coherence of states in a way that safeguards the resources of their peoples and their future.

They also agreed on the necessity of reaching a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause in a way that achieves permanent peace in the region.

Sisi, for his part, highlighted Egypt’s stance on the need for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international references in a way that achieves the aspirations of peoples of the region for peace, security and development.
