CAIRO – 28 April 2022: The Ministry of Education and Technical Education announced Thursday that three new Egyptian-Japanese schools would begin operation in academic year 2022/2023, making the total 51 distributed among 26 governorates.

The new schools are located in Port Said's Port Fouad neighborhood, Eastern Cairo's Mostakbal City, and Marsa Matrouh. The application is open for KG1, KG2, and Grade 1.

Those schools teach the new Egyptian curriculum dubbed "2.0", and Japan's Tokkatsu system, which is activities that focus on the development of the children's non-cognitive skills.

That is by developing their autonomous abilities, social and independent attitudes, and establishing human relationships that form the basis for academic achievement. Tokkatsu in Egypt is implemented through a bunch of activities such as the Classroom Discussion, Class Instruction, Daily Coordinator, Cleaning, and others similar to what is applied in the schools in Japan.

In December, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education held a ceremony to handover the certificates to the first batch of Egyptian Tokkatsu Officers, who have played a significant role in promoting and practicing Tokkatsu activities in Egypt.

Minister of Education and Techncial Education Tarek Shawki said in February that Egypt hopes to bolster the number of Egyptian-Japanese Schools to 500.
