President Sisi ratifies Japanese loan to build Line 4 of Cairo Metro

CAIRO – 6 July 2023: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has ratified a mutual letter between Egypt and Japan regarding a loan provided by the latter to build Line 4 of the Greater Cairo Metro.

The 41-million-yen loan is provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), for the implementation of the first phase of Line 4 of the metro.

The letter was signed in Cairo on December 26, 2022. President Sisi’s approval was published in the Official Gazette to come into force on the following day of the publication.

To develop the Cairo metro, the Egyptian government and new Ambassador of Korea to Egypt Kim Yong-hyon signed an implementation agreement on June 12, 2023, to manufacture and provide metro trains for the second and third lines of Cairo Metro.

The agreement was signed between Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation and the Korean Cooperation Fund for Economic Development.
