CAIRO – 12 June 2023: Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani has arrived in Cairo on to co-chair the second round of the joint Egyptian-Iraqi higher committee on Tuesday.

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli received Sudani, who heads a high-level official delegation, at Cairo International Airport.

Sudani’s delegation includes ministers of foreign affairs; construction, housing, municipalities and public works; trade; and electricity as well as the governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, the chairman of the National Investment Commission and other officials.

Egyptian and Iraqi ministers will attend the joint committee meetings tomorrow, during which a number of cooperation documents are set to be signed in various fields.

Sudani made a visit to Egypt last March, during which he met with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and affirmed Iraq's keenness to continue enhancing bilateral relations with Egypt.

During the meeting, Sisi stressed Egypt's keenness to accelerate the implementation of joint projects with Iraq.

Egypt and Iraq have embarked on joint projects over the past years along with Jordan as part of their tripartite coooperation mechanism.

Joint Egyptian-Iraqi committee

Preparatory meetings at the level of experts kicked off on Saturday to arrange for the second session of the joint Egyptian-Iraqi committee.

The meetings were chaired by the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation and the Iraqi Trade Ministry and aimed to boost efforts with the objective of developing bilateral relations between Egypt and Iraq in accordance with directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The committee meeting is set to witness signing several joint cooperation documents.

Egyptian and Iraqi experts have discussed many joint cooperation files and documents for promoting cooperation that are expected to be inked on all fronts to enhance joint development efforts in both countries.
