CAIRO – 19 April 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry made a phone call Wednesday to his Chadian counterpart Mahamat Saleh Annadif to discuss developments in Sudan.

The two ministers exchanged views on the crisis updates, agreeing on the necessity of an immediate ceasefire. In that context, Minister Shokry pointed out that the existing conflict must be dealt with as an internal affair, so as no foreign party shall interfere in a way that would cripple the peaceful solution.

Minister Shokry and Minister Annadif discussed in February ways of activating the role of the Sahel Alliance, especially in light of the unrest and security challenges facing the region.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 42nd Ordinary Meeting of the Executive Council of the African Union. The two ministers held talks on bilateral cooperation, and exchanged views on a number of political and security crises and issues on the African continent.

Minister Shokry also underlined Egypt's backing to negotiations aimed at accomplishing stability in the Chadian capital, N'Djamena. He added that Egypt was ready to provide any kind of support during that phase out of faith in the centrality of the Chadian role in the region.
