CAIRO – 22 September 2022: The year 2022 is special for Egypt and Indonesia, not only in regards to their bilateral relations, but also for multilateral ones. This comes as the two countries are facing global challenges due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as food and energy, and financial crises, said Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Lutfi Rauf on Wednesday.

 

"This year is special as Egypt will host the COP 27 of Climate Change in Sharm El-Sheikh, and Indonesia will host the G20 summit, both major events are due to convene in November 2022," the ambassador stated in his speech on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia and the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between both countries.

“This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Egypt, which were formally established by signing a treaty of friendship and cordiality in 1947….  The bilateral relations between both sides have been developed politically, economically and socially," the ambassador added.

“Let us continue to work together to further deepen, strengthen and expand our friendship of cooperation in the next 75 years,” he concluded.

 

The Wednesday celebration is the first of its kind since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, as the last celebration was held in 2019.

During the celebration, a photo gallery was held showing the strength of the relationship between the leaders of the two countries since in 1958.

 

Another exhibition of hand-made woven fabrics from the Indonesian culture was held. This is in addition to traditional musical shows performed by Indonesian students in Egypt’s Al-Azhar University and Egyptian students in the Indonesian Cultural Center.
