Anti-Addiction Fund launches awareness initiative against smoking, drugs

CAIRO - 2 May 2022: The Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, headed by Minister of Social Solidarity Dr. Nevin Al-Kabbaj, launched Monday an anti-drug and smoking initiative on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr.
 
The initiative comes in continuation to the implementation of awareness-raising programs and activities. It also comes within the framework of the new phase of the campaign “Drugs are a short journey, do not travel it.. You are stronger than drugs”.

The campaign has seen wide support and impact on audience, and has witnessed the voluntary participation of Egypt's international striker Mohamed Salah.
 
The initiative aims to educate young people about the harms of drug use, and to educate children about the harms of smoking, especially passive smoking, in gardens, parks, public squares, and places where children and families are located.
 
The initiative also stresses the need to avoid the presence of children in places in which smokers are present, raising the awareness of young people not to imitate those who smoke or use drugs, and organizing events in public parks and parks.
 
Dr. Nevin Al-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, directed the continued implementation of awareness activities and programs to prevent youths from falling into addiction's trap, as well as the implementation of activities in line with the different age stages of children.
 
The minister added that the initiative aims to raise awareness of the harms of drug abuse for various groups, shed light on the services provided by the hotline of the Addiction Control and Treatment Fund "16023" and explain the role of families in early detection of drug abuse.

It also explains the stages of treatment through the 28 affiliated and partner treatment centers in 17 governorates so far.
 
For his part, Amr Othman, Assistant Minister of Solidarity and Director of the Fund for Combating and Treatment of Addiction and Abuse, said that the initiative also aims to highlight the negative effects of drug abuse, and correct misconceptions about drug abuse, such as the fact that drugs activate memory and help to forget worries and other concepts.
 
The initiative also included performances and artistic activities, and coloring brochures, in addition to distributing balloons to children that include awareness messages, such as “Live safety without smoke” in addition to the addiction treatment hotline number “16023.”
 
The initiative also included broadcasting awareness messages to young people and families about harm, such as:
 
“Keep away from smoke and live your life safely"
 
"Every hour of addiction, keeps you away from your family for days"
 
"Your feast is sweeter without smoking"
