CAIRO – 23 April 2022: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied Sunday the death of three Egyptians in the accident a bus, carrying 51 individuals doing Ummrah (mini pilgrimage done anytime of the year), made on the road connecting between Mecca and Madinah in Saudi Arabia.

The ministry clarified that the death toll among Egyptians is one, and that is a young man called Mohamed Said Ibrahim. As for injuries, 12 got slightly injured, and had been dismissed from hospital, while only one is still receiving treatment.

The ministry explained that the confusion, by some news websites and on social media, occurred because contemporarily another crash incurred the death of an Egyptian couple. On that front, the ministry added that the Egyptian Consulate in Jeddah fulfilled the request of the man and woman's families, making sure they got buried in Baqia Cemetery, located in Madinah.

Once informed of the accidents, the General Consulate followed up on the condition of Egyptian citizens with the Saudi Red Crescent, the Roads Administration, and Health Affairs Authority, and sent a diplomat to Madinah to facilitate the processing of any paperwork needed.

The press statement concluded by expressing condolences to the relatives of the three deceased in both accidents.
