CAIRO – 30 March 2022: Egypt and Sudan affirmed the need for joint work to ensure that the ongoing global developments do not harm efforts to support Sudan’s path toward achieving political, security, and economic stability.

The remarks were made as delegations from both countries held expanded talks in Cairo after a meeting between Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Wednesday.

The meeting came within the framework of the brotherly, historic, and strong relations that gather Egypt and Sudan and the common destiny that they share, a joint statement by the two countries read.

A spirit of cordiality and brotherhood has prevailed during the discussions, which reflects the deep and special relations between the two sisterly countries, the statement said.

The Egyptian side affirmed the continuation of sending assistance packages and logistic and humanitarian aid to Sudan in addition to providing technical support to the Sudanese cadres and activating the programs of bilateral cooperation.

“This is based on Egypt’s unlimited support for Sudan in all fields and at various levels as well as the close link between the Egyptian and Sudanese national security,” the statement said.

GERD binding deal

The two sides discusses the developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) file, where they agreed on the continuation of intensified mutual coordination and consultations in this regard during the coming period, the joint statement said.

They highlighted the maximum importance of the water file to the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples as an issue of national security.

Therefore, they stressed adherence to reach a fair and legally binding agreement on the filling and operations of the dam in a way that achieves the interests of all parties.

Preserving Libyan stability

On the Libyan file, the two sides affirmed the need to preserve the Libyan stability and territorial integrity.

They also stressed support to all efforts aiming to reach a Libyan-Libyan political solution and to ensure that all Libyan parties agree on moving toward a future that achieves the interests of Libya and the Libyan people without foreign interference.

The delegations affirmed the need to support the Libyan state’s institutions and to ensure the exit of all foreign troops, mercenaries, and foreign fighters within a certain timeframe in implementation of the relevant regional and international United Nations resolutions.

They highlighted the need for the joint military committee 5+5 on Libya to continue its work and for all parties to adhere to stopping military actions in order to preserve the security and stability of Libya.

Enhancing bilateral relations

The two sides reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries, where they hailed the ongoing level of coordination, the joint statement said.

They agreed on the need to enhance economic relations and boost trade exchange in a way that suits the existing momentum in political relations and historic bonds that bind the peoples of the two countries.

They also affirmed the need to maximize efforts of achieving agricultural integration and rail and power linkage and deepen the joint cooperation between the two countries on the security and military levels in a way that achieves the common interests of the two countries.

The Sudanese side expressed its pride in the firm popular and governmental rapprochement between Egypt and Sudan, praising the mutual efforts to promote joint cooperation between the two countries.

They also hailed the sincere and relentless Egyptian support through various forums to preserve the safety and stability of Sudan, stressing the existence of broad prospects for developing cooperation.

The Sudanese side stressed Sudan’s keenness to provide a supportive climate in various strategic development fields as well as its reliance on benefiting from the Egyptian experience in achieving economic reform, training Sudanese cadres, and helping to face challenges in this regard.

Sudanese community in Egypt

The delegations discussed the affairs of the Sudanese community in Egypt. In this regard, Sudan expressed appreciation for the generous care that the Sudanese community in Egypt receives.

The Egyptian side emphasized that the country permanently welcomes the Sudanese community and includes them in all aspects of care in light of the deep history among the two peoples of the Nile Valley.
