CAIRO – 17 May 2021: Ismailia has been blessed with several mega projects in recent years, one of which is Mahsama water treatment plant. U.S.-based Engineering News Record chose the project as the world’s best construction work in 2020. Below are some of the main information about Mahsama.

1 – Mahsama Water Treatment Plant east of the Suez Canal lies over 150 feddans.

2 – The plant was established by some 4,000 engineers and technicians and 12 private-sector companies.

3 – The project cost L.E.3.5 billion at the highest international standards.

4- Mahsama was established in one year to collect agricultural drainage water that was thrown into Timsah Lake in Suez Canal to be treated and pumped into East Sinai lake.

5 – The water will be transported from Mahsama drainage system West Ismailia to Mahsama treatment plant in East Ismailia through Mahsama Siphon under the Suez Canal to irrigate 50,000 feddans.

6 – The water will be tripartally treated with high-quality technology to provide one million cubic meters of water per day.

7 – A total of 1.8 million cubic meters of drilling work was done, and two aqueducts were built to control the flow of water in the drainage system.

8 – Two lifting stations with a capacity of one million cubic meters per day each were established to overcome the 11-meter difference in levels throughout the drainage system.

9 – A total of 41 switches were built to transfer the irrigation water to reclaimed lands on both sides of the drainage system.
