Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed Tayyeb said the sanctity of Quran would not harmed by the “tampering of the lowly people and their ilk, who belong to extreme political parties in countries that need to adopt the morals of the Quran.”
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed on Wednesday that enlightened religious discourse is a most important element in facing destructive extremist thought.
“We pray to God on this sacred occasion to preserve our dear country, Egypt, and to bless us and all the Islamic nation with goodness, peace and safety,” Sisi wrote in a tweet.
