During the call, Abdelatty underscored the importance of preserving Syria's unity and territorial integrity and reiterated Egypt's condemnation of the recent terrorist attack in Damascus. He stressed the need to strengthen Syrian national institutions and rejected any foreign interference in the country's internal affairs. He also emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to combat terrorism and extremism in all their forms.
Egypt has been hosting intensive talks between Hamas and Israeli delegations since Monday, aimed at securing the release of all captives held by Hamas and ending the war that has continued for more than two years and killed over 67,000 Palestinians.
According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, the call focused on joint efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, based on proposals put forward by the US envoy.
“And I want to tell you something, the moment this starts becoming chaotic, like animalistic, we’re gone. So, you want to know what’s happening? Act civilised, act kind, act tolerant, because this is the problem with what is happening in the region.”
The issue of the Renaissance Dam (GERD) is an “existential case” for Egypt, which will not accept putting its water interests or capabilities of its people in jeopardy, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi told the U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa on Wednesday.
