Martyrs Day
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi performed Friday prayers at the Field Marshal Tantawi Mosque, coinciding with national and Armed Forces celebrations for Martyrs' and Veterans' Day.
Every year on March 9, Egypt observes Martyr's Day, a solemn occasion that coincides with the anniversary of the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Abdel Moneim Riad, the former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, who fell on the front lines in 1969.
The ceremony marked Egypt’s annual Martyr's and Veterans' Day on 9 March, commemorating the anniversary of the death of former Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Abdel Moneim Riad in 1969.
In a statement, the military said the initiative aims to promote military and national awareness among various segments of society and to highlight the achievements, heroism and sacrifices of Egyptians who gave their lives in defense of the country.
Sisi met with the commanders after performing the Friday prayers at the El-Mosheer Tantawy Mosque. The meeting coincided with celebrations of the anniversary of the Martyrs' Day and the 10th of Ramadan victories.
Each year, Egypt and the Armed Forces observe Veteran Warrior and Martyr's Day on March 9th, commemorating the sacrifice of former army chief of staff, Lieutenant General Abdel-Moneim Riad, who gave his life in defense of the homeland on the same day in 1969, Egypt’s news agency MENA reported.
Egyptian people places full confidence in the ability of the Armed Forces and police personnel to support the pillars of construction, stability, and developments across the country, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said on Friday.
“President El-Sisi also communicated that the memory of the martyrs must always be recalled in gratitude for the sacrifices they made, without which no achievements would have been realized in Egypt,” Rady said.
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has teared up after meeting the family members of dozens of military and police officers who were slain during confrontations with terrorists, as well as the families of doctors who lost their lives after contracting Covid-19.
