The Korean Cultural Center in Egypt (KCC), in collaboration with the Jeonbuk Culture and Tourism Foundation and Jeonju University, hosts the 2026 K-Food Academy in Cairo from May 17 to 21, 2026. The five-day academy aims to strengthen cultural exchange between Korea and Egypt through culinary arts while introducing Egyptian audiences and culinary professionals to the philosophy, ingredients, and traditions of Korea’s Jeonbuk region.
This year’s tournament marks the first return of the event since 2022, after a suspension caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As an annual tradition, the championship has long served as a platform for supporting the growth of Taekwondo in Egypt, while strengthening cultural and sports exchanges between Korea and Egypt.
Korea welcomed 19 million tourists this year—a record high. Egyptian inbound tourism to Korea is also growing, with more than 5,000 Egyptian tourists in 2025 compared to just over 2,000 in 2023. This marks a 15% increase from last year, with projections expecting the number to surpass 7,000 by year’s end.
The exhibition also features 17 diplomatic artifacts, including official documents, videos, and gifts exchanged between the leaders of Egypt and South Korea. Among the showcased items are mother-of-pearl document boxes adorned with a grape pattern, crafted using Ottchil, a traditional Korean lacquerware technique known for its durability and intricate artistry.
