CAIRO - 11 April 2023: Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt, Mr. Hong Jin-wook, met with the Governor of Matrouh, Mr. Khaled Shuaib Mahmoud, on Monday, where they discussed expanding cooperation in tourism sector.
 
Ambassador Hong congratulated the governor on the start of the construction of El Daaba Nuclear Power Plant and informed that more than 60 Korean engineers from KHNP (Korean Hydro & Nuclear Power) are currently working at the consutruction site of the plant.
 
He also stated that the Embassy would review the travel advisory in Siwa, additionally, after that the Korean Government had lowered Mersa Matrouh to Cairo region into the safest area in August 2022 so that more Koreans can visit and travel to the region.
 
On his side, Governor Mahmoud expressed his gratitude for lowering the travel ban imposed by the Korean Government and the Embassy for promoting active people-to-people exchange and mentioned that the governorate will make all-out efforts to secure safety of Korean travelers and the governorate also hopes to start various cooperation and exchange with Korean regional governorates.  
 
Ambssador Hong also had a meeting with the Mayor of Siwa, Mr. Mohamed Bakr on the 11th of April.
 
He stressed that Siwa is one of the best tourist attractions in Egypt and the Embassy is considering lowering of travel alert level.
 
Mayor Bakr said that all the Korean visitors’ safety will be guranteed in Siwa and his staff will do their best to support tourists from all over the world.  
 
Ambassador Hong is visiting Mersa Matrouh and Siwa from 10th to 13th April to check if any further measures are needed to ensure the security and safety for Korean tourists visiting the region.
