The foreign minister said the African summit provided an important occasion to reiterate the continent’s established support for the Palestinian cause.
In a phone call with UK’s Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on Saturday, Abdelatty highlighted the duties of the anticipated ISF in monitoring the ceasefire in Gaza and protecting civilians under the UN Security Council’s recently-adopted Resolution 2803.
Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and called for the rapid establishment of the international stabilization force to carry out its responsibilities in the territory under the resolution.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi sent a letter to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
He emphasized the importance of first achieving a political framework agreed upon by Israel and the United States before entering into discussions on the mission’s details.
In a statement, President Sisi added: “The recognition and realization of an independent Palestinian state is not a dream. It is, rather, a commitment to a right for which the Palestinian people have long struggled and which has been supported by all peace-loving peoples of the world. It is the sole way to achieve lasting peace, security, and cooperation among all peoples of the region,”
"Today, to revive the hope of peace and a two-state solution, I state clearly - as prime minister of this great country - that the United Kingdom formally recognises the state of Palestine," Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced in a video statement, according to BBC.
France is spearheading the initiative, while Portugal has announced that it intends to move ahead on Sunday, potentially becoming the first to formally declare recognition ahead of other states expected to follow on Monday.
"We are going to fulfill our promise that there will be no Palestinian state, this place belongs to us," Netanyahu proclaimed at a public signing ceremony broadcast live by his office.
“This historic and important step supports Palestinian rights and the Palestinian people’s exercise of their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state, contiguous on the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Bahraini Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa discussed the war in Gaza in a meeting in Cairo on Wednesday.
Sisi briefed his French counterpart on Egypt’s intensified efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, secure the release of captives and detainees, and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid amid a deepening humanitarian crisis.
As they discussed the Egyptian efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza during a meeting in Egypt on Wednesday, Sisi and Crosetto highlighted the need for the release of captives and prisoners and the commencement of the reconstruction process.
Minister Abdelatty also emphasized Egypt’s full support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), firmly rejecting the Israeli actions aimed at undermining the agency’s operations, given its critical role as a lifeline for millions of Palestinian refugees.
He reiterated Egypt’s ongoing efforts to end the war in Gaza and alleviate the humanitarian crisis by facilitating the entry of aid—highlighting Egypt’s role as a leading donor—and by supporting UNRWA's operations in Gaza, the occupied territories, and beyond.
The United Nations conference on the two-state solution has been postponed to July 28–29, diplomats said on Friday.

French President Macron expressed appreciation for Egypt's role in reinforcing regional security and for its efforts to restore stability in the region.
The meeting will focus on global efforts to end the war in Gaza, address the humanitarian crisis in the enclave, and ensure access to relief aid, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The Baghdad Declaration reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause as the core issue of the Arab nation and the backbone of stability in the region.
