Nearly 60 days after the clinical trials for COVI-VAX, Egypt’s first coronavirus vaccine, kicked off, Dr. Osama Azmy, the head of the Clinical Trials committee at the National Research Center revealed the health status of the volunteers, and the steps to approve the vaccine.
Health Minister Hala Zayed headed on Monday to Egypt’s Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) to take the second shot of the candidate coronavirus vaccine developed by the Chinese company Sinopharm.
The Egyptian Ministry of Health said Sunday that the number of volunteers for the trials of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine increased to 11.
Egypt’s House of Representatives, approve, Monday a bill on regulating clinical medical research, known as clinical trials.
Manzary explained that 100 states are participating in the clinical trials, and that a total number of 1.5 million tests for COVID-19 were made available, through WHO, in 129 countries worldwide.
This means the 112-year old university has published most of the researches on coronavirus nationwide. So far, 55 researches have been issued and 33 clinical studies have been conducted in Egypt, according to the statement.
Egypt approved proposals to conduct clinical trials to help develop a treatment for the virus, said director for communicable diseases in the World Health Organization’s regional office.
According to the law, no one will forcibly be subjected to clinical trials, which are performed on a volunteer basis.
