Giza Governor Ahmed al-Ansari announced the preparation of additional animal shelters on Monday as part of a broader plan to address the stray dog phenomenon and improve the governorate's sanitation system.
The Governor of Cairo emphasized that the shelter, expected to be completed within two months, will be managed scientifically and systematically, based on the principle that animal welfare is essential for maintaining ecological balance.
So far, the campaign has vaccinated 4,517 dogs against rabies and sterilized 445 dogs across several governorates, in line with the national strategy’s goal of achieving an “Egypt Free of Rabies by 2030.”
“In general, there is support for this approach, but only with adherence to specific controls,” she said. “Dogs should not be exported to countries known for consuming dog meat, as this violates humanitarian and religious principles. It also contradicts the long-standing goal of ensuring a safe and humane environment for animals.”
