Grand Imam of Al Azhar
He wondered about the future of humanity if such technology were placed in the hands of a limited few to control the destiny of peoples, the directions of development, and the future of humankind in general. He noted that scientific progress is of great importance and offers immense benefits to humanity, but it must not come at the expense of ethics.
Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayeb emphasized that the systematic attacks and ongoing rampage by this usurping, aggressive Israeli occupation aim to drag the entire region to the brink of explosion and ignite a full-scale war in which only the blood and arms dealers will win.
The Grand Imam is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech during the opening session, in which he will underscore the vital role of media in addressing contemporary global challenges, promoting dialogue, and supporting societal values.
The Grand Imam welcomed the invitation and affirmed his intention to visit Lebanon at the earliest opportunity. He also expressed Al-Azhar’s readiness to support the reopening of the institute in Beirut, pledging to provide it with distinguished Al-Azhar envoys and the institution’s renowned curricula and publications.
Both leaders affirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and Al-Azhar in promoting Islamic values of peace, tolerance, and solidarity globally.
“Our dealings with the issue of Palestine and Holy Jerusalem do not reflect the magnitude of what Allah has bestowed upon us in terms of vast human and natural resources, boundless energies, and creative minds across all spheres of contemporary life - scientific, social, political, and economic. Above all, [we hold] steadfast faith in Allah Almighty and unwavering confidence in His mercy towards the weak and oppressed,” he said.
In a phone call with the grand Imam, Pope Francis also wished the whole world more stability and security, praying to God to make the universe free from wars and diseases.
