Elwazery, who had been serving as UMS vice chairman and CEO, succeeds Tarek Nour following the end of the latter's transitional tenure. Nour stepped down due to health reasons.
The board accepted Nour’s resignation and appointed Vice Chairman Mohamed El-Saadi as acting chairman.
El-Sisi made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday with GCL Chairman Zhu Gongshan.
LG Group said in a statement Koo, 73, had been ill for a year.
