President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi congratulated the Egyptian national football team for winning their match against Australia on penalty kicks (4-2), qualifying for the Round of 16 of the World Cup for the first time in the team's history. The two teams had drawn 1-1 during regulation and extra time before the match was decided by a penalty shootout.
