Trump Plan
“You have the whole Trump peace plan based on mutual commitments and responsibilities from the two sides. So, we have to focus on that and we have to push for that,” Abdelatty said during an interview with CNN host Christiane Amanpour.
On the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on Saturday, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with his counterparts from Qatar, Jordan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, as well as the diplomatic adviser to the UAE president.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has underscored Egypt’s efforts to shield the region from “an open-ended conflict” by supporting US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza and hosting a peace summit.
Egypt affirmed its support to Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza, stressing that the country will spare no effort to ensure full implementation of the second phase.
Israel on Thursday confirmed that the remains transferred by Hamas a day earlier belong to Thai farm worker Sudthisak Rinthalak, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office.
Trump, speaking at the White House, avoided giving a specific timeline, saying only that “things are going along well.”
Macron is set to visit the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, which last week hosted indirect talks between Hamas and Israel that led to the plan’s approval. The negotiations were mediated by Egypt, the United States, Qatar, and Turkey.
The leaders praised international diplomatic efforts that helped secure the deal, stressing the importance of its immediate and full implementation to protect civilians and create conditions for lasting peace.
“After negotiations, Israel has agreed to the initial withdrawal line, which we have shown to, and shared with, Hamas,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social.
The joint call by the two Arab mediators in the Gaza talks come after both Israel and Hamas agreed to move ahead with the first phases of a plan outlined by Trump to halt the war in the enclave and ensure the release of remaining captives.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
