Presidential spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said the issue of water security was discussed as part of broader regional concerns, with El-Sisi stressing its direct link to Egypt’s national security.

Abdelatty’s remarks come while Ethiopia is preparing to officially inaugurate its 74 billion cubic meter Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in September despite longstanding objection by Egypt and Sudan, the downstream countries.
