President Sisi meets with the PM, the ministers of planning and resources, and the chiefs of the Armed Forces’ NSPO, Financial Affairs Authority, and Engineering Authority, 24 Aug., 2025 - Presidency
CAIRO – 24 August 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reviewed the concept of Egypt’s second generation of the irrigation system, 2.0, which aims at ensuring water security and developing non-traditional water resources.
The Egyptian irrigation system 2.0 also seeks to optimize the use of traditional resources and promote the state’s comprehensive development opportunities, while ensuring digital transformation of water management.
It aims at leveraging modern technologies and satellite imagery to monitor water channels, oversee maintenance operations, and detect encroachments.
The president reviewed the system 2.0 concept during a meeting with state officials on Sunday, including the prime minister, the ministers of planning and resources, and the chiefs of the Armed Forces’ National Service Projects Organization, Financial Affairs Authority, and Engineering Authority.
During the meeting, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam stated that the irrigation system 2.0 focuses on water treatment, highlighting the implementation of major water treatment plants of Bahr Al-Baqar, New Delta, and Al-Mahsama.
The president emphasized the importance of continuing measures to rationalize water use across all sectors, including agriculture and industry.
He also instructed that investments continue to modernize Egypt’s water and irrigation systems and directed reliance on advanced technology and smart water management.
Sisi underlined the importance of rational management and safe use of groundwater resources in Egypt.
The meeting included a comprehensive review of Egypt’s national water situation, including water availability for agricultural and drinking water needs, as well as progress on key ongoing projects, particularly those aimed at strengthening water infrastructure.
Discussions also covered National Water Resources and Irrigation Plan "Water Security for All 2050."
The plan focuses on rationalizing water consumption, improving water quality, expanding water resources, and creating a supportive environment.
The meeting also focused on developments in the New Delta Project, including the collection and transfer of agricultural drainage water to the New Delta Water Treatment Plant, in order to provide clean and safe water for agricultural investment in the area.
