Somaliland
The foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Türkiye, Pakistan, Indonesia, Djibouti, Somalia, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon and Mauritania denounced the move in a joint statement on Sunday.
The Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement that the move represents a blatant violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, and a direct infringement on the legal and historical status of Jerusalem.
The foreign ministers of Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Türkiye, and Indonesia issued a joint statement on Saturday to denounce the move.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Angolan counterpart, Téte António, met on Sunday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) summit.
Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s unwavering support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stressing Cairo’s categorical opposition to any external attempts to partition the country.
El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s recognition of independence for any part of its territory, describing such move as a blatant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.
Speaking at an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers in Jeddah, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia.
The foreign ministers of Egypt, Algeria, Bangladesh, Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Turkey, and Yemen, along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, have strongly condemned an Israeli official’s illegal visit to Somaliland, a region of the Federal Republic of Somalia, on Jan. 6.
The Arab League described the recognition as null, void and without legal effect, Al Arabiya reported.
The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Monday afternoon after Israel’s unilateral recognition of the Somali breakaway region of Somaliland.

The statement included the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and a cross-regional group of countries: Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Türkiye, and Yemen.
“The illegal aggression of PM Netanyahu in recognising a part of Somalia’s Northern region is against international law,” Mohamud wrote on X.

They reiterated their support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, as well as for the country’s legitimate state institutions. Both ministers described Israel’s unilateral action as a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, warning that it would undermine stability in the Horn of Africa.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt reiterated its strongest condemnation of Israel’s unilateral recognition of the so-called “Somaliland,” describing the move as a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter. Egypt warned that such actions undermine the foundations of international peace and security and contribute to instability in the Horn of Africa region.
In March, American and Israeli officials told AP that Israel and the US and Israel discussed with three African countries of Sudan, Somalia, and brealaway region of Somalia (aka Somaliland) to deport and displace the Palestinians from occupied Palestinian territories to the African territories.

“Egypt and Somalia have a long history of extended relations. Since our independence, Cairo has always been a prominent ally of ours in all fields and continues to support us in the fields of education, security, and defense, and we are working to deepen relations by establishing a council,” he said in an interview with Al Qahera News.
