CAIRO – 9 January 2026: The foreign ministers of Egypt, Algeria, Bangladesh, Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Turkey, and Yemen, along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, have strongly condemned an Israeli official’s illegal visit to Somaliland, a region of the Federal Republic of Somalia, on Jan. 6.
In a joint statement issued Thursday, the group said the visit constitutes a clear violation of Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, breaches international law and the U.N. Charter, and encourages dangerous separatist agendas.
“We reaffirm our unwavering support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Encouraging secessionist agendas is unacceptable and risks exacerbating tensions in an already fragile region,” the statement said.
The ministers emphasized that respect for international law, noninterference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, and adherence to diplomatic norms are essential for regional and international stability. They further commended Somalia’s commitment to peaceful international engagement and constructive diplomacy.
“Furthermore, we express our commitment to continuing our support for the diplomatic and legal measures taken by Somalia to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability in accordance with international law,” the ministers added.
The statement concluded by asserting that Israel must fully respect Somalia’s sovereignty and national unity. The group demanded that Israel honor its obligations under international law and immediately revoke its recognition of the region.
