In the Danish capital, Copenhagen, demonstrators marched toward the US embassy, carrying Greenland’s red-and-white flag and displaying placards opposing the proposal, Reuters reported.
Speaking during a White House meeting with oil industry executives, Trump said “I would like to make a deal, you know, the easy way. But if we don’t do it the easy way, we’re going to do it the hard way.”
Greenland and Denmark have consistently stated that the island is not for sale.
The declaration has stirred sharp diplomatic objections from allies and renewed debate over Arctic security.
