Cyprus President
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides on Friday signed a joint declaration to upgrade relations between Egypt and Cyprus to the level of a strategic partnership.
The Egyptian foreign minister underlined the importance of deepening energy cooperation, leading to the full integration of Cypriot gas fields with Egypt, in line with agreements signed during Christodoulides’s visit to Cairo this year.
The three leaders said they seek to collaboration in promoting security, economic prosperity, and sustainable development for their peoples and for the broader Mediterranean and Middle Eastern regions.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi that they highlighted the establishment of a Palestinian state as the only way to achieve sustainable peace.
“The energy file was strongly present in our talks today,” President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said in a joint press conference with Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus following their meeting.
The summit on Wednesday is expected to witness the signing of MoUs in areas including ports development, information and communications technology, boosting investment and enhancing healthcare, media reports quoted Cypriot Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis as saying.
During his visit to Cairo on Wednesday, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides along with his accompanying delegation visited The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
