Egypt has launched a multi-nation diplomatic mobilization to secure the immediate release of Egyptian sailors held aboard the hijacked cargo ship MT Eureka off the coast of Somalia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Monday.
The consulate immediately issued documents for the sailors to return home, the statement added.
“Once they returned to Egypt, the sailors thanked President Sisi for his efforts to solve their issue,” MENA said.
Their release was carried out upon President Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi’s directions to the concerned agencies to exert all necessary efforts to set the sailors free.
Eleven Egyptian sailor who were stuck in Ukrainian port of Kherson arrived in Egypt on Thursday on a Russian plane after coordination by Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.
