CAIRO-25 February 2021: Barcelona former defender Javier Mascherano revealed that his former teammate Lionel Messi has been sensational for Barcelona despite the club's poor run this season.
"I think he's doing good, apart from the fact that Barcelona aren't having their best moment in a sporting sense," Mascherano said.
Mascherano shared the dressing room with Messi in Barcelona between 2010 and 2018.
Mascherano's spell at Barcelona saw the club winning two UEFA Champions League titles as well as dominating the domestic scene after winning five League titles and five Cup titles.
Barcelona have been suffering on all levels in the last two years, having lost the Spanish League title last season to arch-rivals Real Madrid and this season they are behind the table toppers Atletico Madrid with 8 points.
The Catalan also suffered in Europe and they are close from being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after losing at home to PSG 4-1 in the first leg of the round of 16.
All these circumstances surrounding the club made Messi's future unclear as his contract with the club ends this summer.
Mascherano commented on the possibility of watching Messi in another jersey, saying "At all big clubs, players eventually leave at some point. It's the clubs that stay. But, as a friend, I will support whatever decision he takes."
