CAIRO-25 December 2020: Liverpool’s former captain, Jamie Carragher, revealed on Friday that Salah’s comments about his future were a message to the club’s board.

Carragher believes that Salah said these comments as he wanted the board to offer him a lucrative new deal.

“The timing of the player initiating transfer stories is also strange. My view is it was a message to Liverpool’s owners to offer him a lucrative new deal.”Carragher said.

Rumors linked the Egyptian winger with a move to Spanish giants, Barcelona and Real Madrid, especially after the Egyptian winger said in an interview with AS that he is not sure about his future with the Reds.

Carragher added “Seeing their players being courted by the La Liga clubs would have concerned Liverpool five years ago. Not now. I am not convinced Madrid and Barcelona can afford Salah.”

The Egyptian winger is having a great season with the Reds as he is leading the league’s top scorer list with 13 goals, which helped Liverpool to top the standings.

Liverpool will host West Bromwich Albion on Sunday in the league and the Egyptian winger is expected to start the match after coming from the bench in the last match against Crystal Palace.
