CAIRO-14 December 2020: Al Ahly defeated Misr Lel Makassa SC 3-1 on Sunday night in the opening fixture of the Egyptian Premier League.

Al Ahly sent a strong message to all the teams that they are ready to defend their beloved title, which the club won 42 times, after a historic season, during which the Red Devils secured the treble.

Mahmoud Kahraba was tackled by Makassa’s goalkeeper after two minutes and the referee awarded Al Ahly a penalty, which Ali Maaloul converted to give his team an early lead.

Marwan Hamdy equalized the score, minutes before half-time, by a fantastic header and the first half ended with a 1-1 draw.

At the second half, Kahraba added the second goal as he received a wonderful pass from the team’s playmaker Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Al Ahly regained the lead in the match.

Ali Maaloul provided a wonderful cross to Amr El Soulia, who found the target to add the third goal for Al Ahly and secure the first three points for the Red Devils in the league.

“Misr Lel Makkasa is a very good team and they have a fantastic coach. They play good football and they were tough opponents in the match." Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane said after the match.

Al Ahly will face newly-promoted Ghazl El Mahalla SC on Friday in the second round of the league.
