CAIRO-9 October 2020: Former Al Ahly manager Rene Weiler revealed that he decided to leave Al Ahly to be with his family.

“COVID-19 period was so difficult for me and I just saw my family once in 8 months and travelled to Switzerland in a private plane” Weiler said.

Al Ahly announced on 1 October that they have parted ways with the Swiss manager and announced the appointment of South African manager, Pitso Mosimane.

Weiler has been successful in his only season with the Red Devils as he secured the domestic league title and took the team to CAF Champions League semi-finals and the domestic cup quarter-finals.

Weiler added “I do appreciate my time with Al Ahly. Everyone supported me since the first day but I decided to leave to be with my family. I have two kids and my responsibility towards my family is more important than everything.”

Al Ahly reached CAF Champions League semi-finals and they will face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca on 17 October in the first leg in Morocco and they will host the Moroccan giants a week later in Cairo.
