CAIRO_18 July 2020: Al Ahly's director of signings Amir Tawfik stated on Friday that the club is not interested in signing Ismaily and Egypt national team defender Baher Elmohamady.

"Elmohamady is a very good player and we really appreciate him as a player but we are not interested in signing him." Tawfik told Filgoal.

Elmohamady has been linked with a move to Al Ahly since 2018 when he shined as a promising defender in Ismaily and earned a spot at the national team.

Tawfik added "We did not negotiate with Ismaily or the player."

The defender, born in Ismailia, is an academy product of the city's local team, Ismaily. Elmohamady wore the famous yellow Jerseys of Ismaily during his whole career except a short spell at Cairo giants Zamalek.

Elmohamady had a sensational performance with the team at 2019 African Cup of Nations’ Qualifiers and he was included in the team's final squad for the tournament.

Elmohamady, who featured in 16 games with Ismaily this season, is expected to miss his team's training sessions till the end of July for injury.
