CAIRO – 23 June 2017: Two English clubs have entered the race to sign Al-Ahly and Egyptian national team defender Ahmed Hegazy, one making a visit to Cairo on Thursday.

According to Kingfut and the Sun, Premier League club West Bromwich and Championship side Hull City are both looking to sign Hegazy.

Approximately two weeks ago, scouts from West Bromwich were sent to Morocco to watch Hegazy in action in a match against Wydad Casablanca, according to the Sun. Similarly, Hull City coach Leonid Slutsky was spotted at Al-Ahly’s last match against Wydad Casablanca in Cairo on June 22.

If signed, this wouldn’t be the first time for the 26-year-old defender to play in Europe, having played for Fiorentina and Perugia in Italy before returning back to Egypt and joining Al-Ahly.

Hegazy is considered one of the key players who helped Al-Ahly secure their second consecutive league title this season. He also contributed with Egypt’s participation in the 2017 African Cup of Nations Finals, after seven years of not qualifying for the tournament.
