Spanish giants rejected Navas in 2008

CAIRO –22 June 2017 : “Who's that keeper? I was spellbound by him” Keylor Navas’ agent, Ricardo Cabanas, talked today about his impression when he first saw Navas in Costa Rica.

Cabanas remembered the incident in an interview with the (Encuentro Deportivo ) program. “I came to Costa Rica in 2008 after watching some videos which Gabelo Conejo had given me, and I spent a fortnight watching the national team's training sessions,” Cabanas said. “I was watching a video of a match between DC United and Saprissa , he was amazing.”

Cabanas decided to take Navas, who is currently the Real Madrid goalkeeper, and offered him to Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. At the times all the major teams had turned him down.

Cabanas remembered Barcelona’s assistant coach told him that he thought Navas was a great goalkeeper “but no one is going to sign a goalkeeper from Costa Rica - at least no big club...”

Navas , 29, is now a goalkeeper for Real Madrid and won the Champions League with Real Madrid two consecutive times.
