CAIRO – 21 June 2017: José Mourinho, former Real Madrid and current Manchester United manager, was accused of having evaded taxes totaling €3.3 million ($3.6 million) on Tuesday.

According to the Spanish daily El Pais, Spanish prosecutors are charging the Portuguese manager with two counts of tax evasion during his time at Real Madrid.

According to DW, the story goes back to 2011 and 2012, when Mourinho was first accused of failing to declare revenue from his image rights in his Spanish income taxes. While the original dispute was settled, prosecutors later found out that some of the information was incorrect.

Recently, a number of world class footballers including Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been accused of evading the Spanish tax authorities.

Mourinho is now the manager of Manchester United. He managed to achieve European success for the club after winning the European League last season and qualifying for the Champions League next season.
