Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho was sent off as his side drew 1-1 with his former club Manchester United, while Tottenham Hotspur secured a narrow 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday.
De Rossi replaced Mourinho on Tuesday, with Roma ninth in the league after their 3-1 loss to AC Milan, but the Portuguese manager still has the support of the fans and banners have appeared in recent days protesting about his sacking.
Roma have just one win from their six league matches so far and a growing injury list is not aiding Mourinho's cause, particularly in defence.

"I don't think he can play. Honestly, I hope he can make it for the bench. It's the last game of the season even if after that we have Spezia," Mourinho told reporters ahead of next Wednesday's final in Budapest.
"It's helping these kids (players) to grow, to achieve important things," he said. "It's also helping the Roma fans who have given me so much since day one. It's an immense joy to get to another final.
"I'm not stupid, you know," Mourinho said. "Today, I went to the game with a microphone. I recorded everything. From the moment I left the locker room, to the moment I returned. I protected myself."

Mourinho, who took over at Roma in May last year, was in tears as he embraced his coaching staff after the win.
The two-time Champions League winner's arrival came like a bolt from the blue for Roma's trophy-starved supporters.
