CAIRO, 26 August 2019: Al Ahly planning committee prefers to choose European coach to lead the team in the next period.

Al Ahly appointed planning committee to choose Martin Lasarte’s successor. Al-Ahly announced that they have sacked their Uruguayan manager, Martin lasarte.

The decision comes after Al-Ahly were knocked out of the Egyptian Cup competition as they lost 1-0 to Pyrmaids.

Al-Ahli officials confirmed that there is a tendency to assign responsibility to a European coach. They may hire someone from South America only in case they found a coach with great potential.

For the second time in the club’s history, Al-Ahly lost three times to one club in a season as Pyramids defeated Al-Ahly twice at the league before defeating them on Saturday night at the cup thanks to a goal from Erik Traore.

Lasarte was appointed as Al-Ahly manager on January, to follow the sacked manager, Patrice Carteron, and since then he led the club in 31 games.

Under Lasarte’s command, Al-Ahly won the Egyptian league title after a fierce competition with their arch rivals, Zamalek but the club was knocked out of the CAF Champions League competition from the quarter finals, having lost 5-1 on aggregate to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The club did not announce who will succeed Lasarte as the club manager.
