CAIRO – 5 June 2017: The taekwondo national team will travel to South Korea to participate in the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships, taking place from 24 till 30 of June. The team has already been chosen, stated Mohammed Abou Zeid the President of the Egyptian Taekwondo Federation.

The final team line-up for the championship is; Moaz Nabil, Moahmed Farag, Youssef Saeed, Abdelrahaman Weal, Seif Issa, Mohamed Ayman, Habyba Assem, Nour Hassin, Hadya Malak, Marwan El Rafaie and Radwa Rada.

Taekwondo is a form of self-defense martial art which uses the hands and feet to repel the enemy. It was developed in the early twentieth century in Korea.

In the seventh world taekwondo championship, Egypt won their first bronze medal with Amr Khairy’s performance. In 2004, Tamer Bayoumi won the first gold for Egypt in the African Olympic taekwondo qualifications.

Hadya Malak, one of the members of the team that is heading to Korea this month, won third place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Furthermore in 2016, Egypt finished at the top of the medal table at the African Senior Taekwondo Championship.
Egypt will hold the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships for teenagers this August in Sharm el-Sheikh.
