CAIRO – 11 May 2018: Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer’s slow recovery has caused German fans not to trust him to be Germany’s goalkeeper in the 2018 World Cup.

Neuer, a World Cup winner in 2014, broke a bone in his foot in September 2017 and has not played since, putting his fitness for the tournament in doubt.

German newspaper Bild conducted a poll proving that fans put their trust in Barcelona’s German goalkeeper, Marc Andre Ter Stegen.

Neuer himself commented before that he will not fly to Russia for the World Cup unless he plays at least one game beforehand. Bayern Munich’s Jupp Heynckes has ruled Neuer out of the German Cup final against VfB Stuttgart.

Out of a total 82,000 fans who participated in the Bild poll, 85 percent of the voters do not want Neuer to start in the 2018 World Cup.

Germany has been drawn in Group F with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea.
